For EducatorsThe original concept of Alien All-Stars began as a rough idea for a children’s book. Derek Munson, author of Enemy Pie, wrote a short story called Henry and the Alien All-Stars, about a boy who played baseball in the Galactic Leagues. With multiple edits and countless rewrites, the story showed promise, but never materialized as a children’s book. Nonetheless, the idea continued to grow. Over the years, AAS evolved from a simple story about an earthling’s adventures, into an expansive story of a galaxy filled with amazing baseball-loving creatures. In its seven years of development, there have been numerous transformations, both in the content of Alien All-Stars and in the minds of its creators. For Derek, the long slow journey has led to a solid understanding of what it means to be a writer, and what it means to tell a story. As soon as these answers became evident, Alien All-Stars came to life. The simple principles Derek learned are at the heart of his creative writing workshops. They are guaranteed to ignite the imaginations of your students and facilitate the creation of vibrant, powerful stories.
